i clutch this truth to my heart
to the dark and light
in my chest, your soul
has a nest here, a soft refuge, that
must have been collecting, unnoticed
for the entire before, of the us we are now
before death's pressure-quiet depths,
our airy-high joys and the breathlessness
pinned pulsating onto each
i'd been saving it all, both
for you and the me you hauled up
from the numb of an oh-so-low below
when i say my best friend is Love
it's more about everything in the poetry
that we live into each other
the lives we've lost and gained
as well as the way itself, its footfalls
step to the gentle ghost rhythm of our song
my best friend is us, the breath we share
the slip of time through linked fingers
its energy dreams our lives together
in moments, horizons, old and new
it will whisper our journey to the children
but, tonight, this earth and ocean whisper is ours
to the dark and light
in my chest, your soul
has a nest here, a soft refuge, that
must have been collecting, unnoticed
for the entire before, of the us we are now
before death's pressure-quiet depths,
our airy-high joys and the breathlessness

Daily reminders
Breathe in
Breathe out
Let go of all your troubles and doubts
Shoulders down
Chin up
Stay hydrated, put water in your cup
Hang on
Stay safe
You'll thank yourself later today
Breathe out
Breathe in
Take it easy, it's never too late to begin
Babysteps
You'll get out of the hell and the torment
And I'll be here if you need to vent

Forever and Always
You were my fun and laughter,
my strength when I was down.
My happy ever after,
you could always bring me round.
I loved to hold your hand
when walking down the street.
There was never one without the other,
when our friends we`d go meet.
I loved to feel your warmth
whenever we were close
and feel your loving arms around me,
that's something I miss most.
Well it's Christmas time again,
must be hard for me, they say
but honey I couldn´t miss you more
than I do on other days.
I 'll be missing you at Christmas,
at Easter and Birthdays.
when I wake up in the morning,
just forever and always.

Friends, without benefits
we are not friends,
friends don’t share
one heart, one mouth.
and friends walk in parallel lines,
brushing knuckles not
hipbones and I keep wishing
on the shooting stars
splintering in your eyes for us to be
friends but each time you sigh into my shoulder
how you need this, how you need
me, somehow it almost seems enough,
it almost seems like we are more
than friends but darling -
we are not friends, not even close
and we are not more or
less we just
are.

This poem is written about my dear wife- my bestest-ever friend. It shall hereby serve as my entry in the Bestest Friend Contest being run by:
DreamingAutumn
I really struggled w/ the structure. I'm more about using short line length to drive the timing/pace and accepting that it ends in a vertically-longer work. The 30 line limit kinda forced me to join lines that I NEVER would have, if not for the rule. This also causes it to become a little less poem-y, as it goes along. Anyway, hope I still pulled it off.
Peace and Love,
Scott

Bestest Friend ContestNote: Please mention DreamingAutumn if you have any questions and note her your entries. dA is being a jerk, and having issues, so I can't do much.
CONTEST IS NOW OPEN!
BESTEST FRIENDS ARE AWESOME.
Right? RIGHT.
In celebration of my bestest friend DreamingAutumn coming to visit me, we've decided to host a contest! The premise of this contest will be simple, write something to your best friend! It could be anything! Maybe you want to write them a letter telling them how much you care, or a write piece dedicated to them. Maybe you want to write about your favorite memory, your silliest moment, or that time you both laughed so hard your sides hurt because one of you did the Six Little Ducks Dance from Barney. ANYthing!
Want to donate something? Feature, points, pm, a print, something you made? Note either IrrevocableFate or DreamingAutumn.

I have to disagree with you. I feel that the poem-y quality continues near the end. I think the beauty of the story you're sharing, and the (wondrous) love you're expressing, even strengthens the further you read. Really great piece.
