Taking on Water and Weight

facets hide the
grease-blurry
                  evidence
refracting conversation
                  into rainbows
our oil slicks
drink themselves
                  down into
          then under
the ether
                  there is no rest
                  in this unquiet
switch grass crunches
below the skin
                  and i'm no rainbow
follow the oil
sick thick molasses
                  candy footprints
up to the edge
of the cattails'
                  calling
it's moist here
                  cool here
there's something soft
                  breaking down
in the shallows
waiting beckoning unquestioned
like the mere anticipation
                  of us finding it
has powered the universe
                  up to this point
and the itchgrass
steps us forward
                  downward scarecrows
past the coated moments
that glyph the storyboard
                  borrow my mouth
                  speak the gurgle
plaid barrel chests
soon full of fish
                  omega
                  3 eyes
                  burning blood
                  and carp liver oil
our lanterns flicker
unquestioned
taking on water
         and weight
ghost brothers
         and sisters
ease us into
the same sleep
we left
         dreaming
at the bottom
